And when their children are all grown up, we get to see another side to them as a father.
Val Kilmer‘s children clearly adore their dad because the adorable pictures they posted of their bond with him on Instagram.
Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to the 1986 legendary film and fans of various ages around the world were incredibly excited to see Tom Cruise’s character Pete “Maverick” Mitchell reprise his role and give us a peak into his life as a seasoned aviator.
But thousands of fans were even more excited when they heard the unexpected news that Val Kilmer will be reprising his iconic role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky for the movie as well!
And with the health issues the actor has faced in the last few years, his character making an appearance on-screen meant even more to fans. Despite a harrowing battle with throat cancer in recent years, Kilmer was reportedly very excited to play the “Iceman” again. Saying in an interview, “being reunited with a long-lost friend. The characters never really go away. They live on in deep freeze. If you’ll pardon the pun.”
As excited as everyone was, there were two people who were perhaps the most excited about Val Kilmer reprising his iconic role for this eagerly awaited sequel.
And the tearful on-screen reunion between Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise in the Top Gun sequel was described as one of the most memorable movie moments of 2022.
According to Val, it was like no time had passed when he was on set with Tom Cruise again.
But Val Kilmer is not only an actor but also a family man. He has two children, a daughter named Mercedes and a son named Jack. When their dad was shooting Top Gun 2, his children was thrilled to see their dad reprise his iconic role.
His daughter posted pictures from set, captioning them “Finally allowed to post these pics from the @topgunmovie set 🙂 Maverick out now !”
In the picture, she and her brother Jack don pilot hats and her brother has his aviator sunglasses on. And Jack looks incredibly similar to a young Val Kilmer.
The last picture was of an adorable snuggle between father and daughter which Mercedes probably shared with her father while he was on set.
It is so sweet that his daughter and son went to the set with their father and saw him working his craft firsthand.
Indeed, Jack Kilmer has inherited his father Val Kilmer’s good looks and has followed in his footsteps by pursuing a career in acting. He is the son of actors Val Kilmer and Joanne Whalley.
Jack began his acting career in 2013, making his debut in the film Palo Alto, directed by Gia Coppola and based on a novel by James Franco. In the film, Jack portrayed the character Teddy, earning critical acclaim for his performance. His performance was described as ”formidable”, ”naturalistic and sincere”.
Like his father, Jack has appeared in numerous films and has garnered attention for his performances. While he may have benefitted from his family background in the industry, Jack is carving his own path and working to establish himself as a talented actor.
And the resemblance is uncanny!
Jack Kilmer was born on June 6, 1995, to actors Joanne Whalley and Val Kilmer. He was raised in Los Angeles and received his primary education at The Center for Early Education. It was during his time there that he crossed paths with Gia Coppola, who would later become a filmmaker. Jack and Gia first met when he was in the first grade, while she was in the sixth grade.
Apart from his acting career, Jack Kilmer is also a musician, skilled in playing both the guitar and drums. He was previously a member of a band called Glimmer. Additionally, Jack occasionally showcases his DJing skills at a club in Los Angeles.
Sadly, Val’s health has been rocky the last few years with some issues persisting to this day. He has been doing better, but we hope his health improves.
