Bill Murray’s had a tough time of things in the media lately, what with allegations over misconduct on various film sets, but it seems as though things are looking up for the actor.
According to reports, the Groundhog Day star is dating American singer Kelis, perhaps most famous for her 2003 hit Milkshake.
News of the unlikely pairing is being circulated by a number of major sources today, with the Murray and Kelis having been spotted in public together a few times in recent weeks.
Rumors first began to spread after Lost In Translation actor Murray was sighted at Cross The Tracks music festival in late May, then again at the Mighty Hoopla festival in south London on June 3. Kelis, coincidentally, was performing at both of them.
TMZ say that Murray and Kelis have spent time with one another both in the US and abroad, while they were reportedly seen at the same London hotel and posed for a photo backstage at one of the aforementioned festivals.
Needless to say, the heavily speculated romance has generated a fair amount of buzz, not least because of the 29-year age gap between the two.
Murray, 72, has been married twice and has six sons. He divorced his second wife, Jennifer Butler, back in 2008. Kelis, on the other hand, lost husband Mike Mora to stomach cancer last year in March. She has three children.
Sources have reportedly told The Sun that Murray and Kelis have been “getting close for a while”, though neither party has officially confirmed the romance.
An inside source is said to have told The Sun: “They’ve met up in the States before which got people in the industry talking, and now are meeting up in London while they’re both here. They’ve clearly hit it off.
“They were both seen at the same hotel, and he’s been to watch her perform several times before he went to Mighty Hoopla.
“But they’ve also both shared relatively recent bereavements and have that common bond between them.
“Whatever it is that has brought them together, and however unlikely it seems, they are both single and are having fun despite the fairly big age gap.”
Only last year did iconic comedic actor Murray find himself in hot water after his project Being Mortal was shut down over allegations of “misbehavior” on set.
In a 2022 interview, Murray defended himself, stating: “I did something I thought was funny and it wasn’t taken that way…
“As of now we’re talking and we’re trying to make peace with each other. We’re both professionals. We like each other’s work – we like each other, I think.
“If we can’t get along and trust each other, there’s no point in going further working together or making a movie… It’s been quite an education for me. I’ve been doing not much else but thinking about her for the last week or two.”
