Cancer-stricken Shannen Doherty, fighting the battle of her life, has shared a sad update on her health.
According to the Beverly Hills 90210 star, a CT scan performed on January 5 showed that she had brain metastases.
“My fear is obvious,” she wrote on Instagram.
After initially being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and later revealing a recurrence of the disease in 2017, Doherty has regularly shared updates about her ongoing treatment.
Her latest update, along with a rather alarming video, has reminded many once again of the tough battle Shannen is facing. On Tuesday, Shannen revealed that she is being treated for brain metastases, a medical condition characterized by the spread of cancer cells from their original location to the brain.
Shannen also mentioned that she has been given a custom-made mask that she must wear on her head while receiving radiation therapy.
”January 12, the first round of radiation took place,” she explained in an Instagram video and added: ”My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic, and there was a lot going on in my life.”
In addition, she expressed her gratitude for the support and help she has received from the medical experts.
“I am fortunate as I have great doctors like Dr. Amin Mirahdi and the amazing techs at cedar sinai,” she continued. “But that fear…. The turmoil….. the timing of it all…. This is what cancer can look like.”
When the former 90210 star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, she decided to keep the diagnosis to herself so she could continue to work, going on to star in the 90210 reboot – just four months after her friend and former co-star, Luke Perry died.
But then she decided to share her diagnosis in public, keeping fans updated on her treatment through social media. Shannen successfully battled the terrible disease, and ever since, she has remained incredibly open about her treatment, worries, and successes on social media.
“Is it all pretty? NO but it’s truthful and my hope in sharing is that we all become more educated, more familiar with what cancer looks like,” she wrote on Instagram in October 2021. “I hope I encourage people to get mammograms, to get regular checkups, to cut thru the fear and face whatever might be in front of you.”
Not so long ago, the ’90s icon revealed that she would record video messages to say goodbye to her loved ones when the time comes – but believes that she will live another 10 to 15 years. We hope that Shannen’s latest update is not as serious as it initially sounds, and that she can overcome this with strength and resilience.
Despite the devastating prognosis, Shannen says that she’s ”got a lot of life” in her – and we really hope she will be with us for many years.
Sending all our positive and good health vibes to the brave Shannen Doherty!
