Kelsey Grammar will always be known by many as Fraiser for his role in the iconic show. Now that actor has turned his career into something a little different; he has started taking on projects which have personal relevance for him. And many might be surprised by his thoughts on faith… it is after all not something you would expect from a Hollywood actor.
Kelsey Grammer just finished his latest project titled Jesus Revolution. The movie is based on the true life story of pastor Chuck Smith, a man of God who decided to invite hippies to introduce rock music into his fledgling church. During his mission, Smith gets help from street preacher Lonnie Frisbee.
68-year-old Kelsey Grammar is incredibly proud of this project and watched the finished movie with his wife Kayte Walsh.
“It’s really uplifting. It’s a good movie,” Grammer told USA Today. “My wife and I saw it together. She was just dissolved in tears and said, ‘It’s the best thing you’ve ever done.’”
The actor himself became a full-fledged protestant but he was raised as a Christian Scientist. As for himself, he remembers the Jesus hippie movement of the 1960s and ’70s well.
“They were energized and optimistic, and I thought that was a great thing to see,” the actor said.
Grammer also appreciated the way pastor Chuck Smith embraced and introduced counterculture into his church.
“What Chuck did went back to one of the basic precepts of Christianity, which is inclusion,” Grammer said in an interview. “He thought, ‘Well, I’m doing it this way and people aren’t listening,’”‘ so he finally surrendered. He said, ‘You show me a hippie and I’ll listen.’
“Sure enough, it became a very dynamic relationship between him and Lonnie Frisbee. It became a great adventure, which is still going on. His (Calvary Chapel) church branched into 1,000 churches around the country and it still exists. Christian contemporary music is going gangbusters and (the Jesus movement) put that at his doorstep,” the actor expanded.
As for his personal life, the actor is also a man of faith. He said, “I’ve had hiccups. I’ve had some tragic times. I have wrestled with those and worked my way through them: sometimes rejecting faith, sometimes rejecting God even, in a period of being pretty angry about it, like, ‘Where were you?’ That kind of thing.”
He went on to explain his current place in life where faith is concerned. “But I have come to terms with it and have found great peace in my faith and in Jesus. It’s not cavalier — Jesus made a difference in my life. That’s not anything I’ll apologize for.”
We wish the actor the very best in whatever he does. It is so interesting to learn about his current views regarding faith. What do you think of actor Kelsey Grammar’s views on faith? Let us know in the comments below.
