What has happened to Julia Roberts 33 years after the premiere of “Pretty Woman?”
Users react to Julia’s aging changes at 55.
Why are social media users disappointed with Julia after hearing “what she has done to her sister.”
In March 2023, it had been thirty-three years since Julia Robert’s movie, “Pretty Woman,” first came out. During an outing that year, the actress was photographed by her makeup artist, who shared the image on social media.
The picture showed how the star had aged and what she looked like now. However, social media users had differing opinions about Robert’s appearance, with some praising her and others criticizing her.
The celebrity’s role, alongside leading man Richard Gere, landed her many other films over the years. Below we glimpse what both Roberts and Gere did after appearing in “Pretty Woman.”
Julia 33 Years after “Pretty Woman”
After “Pretty Woman” was successful in 1990, Roberts and Gere’s careers took a turn for the best. The latter was considered a leading man, while the actress was seen as the industry’s newest celebrity.
The two stars became Hollywood’s most wanted, and a decade later, in 1999, they collaborated again in “Runaway Bride.” Roberts later went on to feature in other hit movies like 2010’s “Eat Pray Love,” the “Ocean” franchise, and 2013’s “August: Osage County.”
In their personal lives, the actress, then 55, married Lyle Lovett in 1993, but they separated, and after two years of their union, the couple divorced. In 2000, the celebrity met Danny Moder, a cinematographer.
Two years later, they tied the knot after courting for a short time and welcomed twins, Phinnaeus and Hazel, then 18, and a son Henry, then 15. Gere, on the other hand, married thrice, with his first one being to Cindy Crawford.
The actor and the supermodel were in a union from 1991 until 1995. In 2002, he married Carey Lowell, and together, they had a son, Homer, before their marriage ended in divorce in 2016, and two years later, Gere married his third wife, Alejandra Silva.
He and the Spanish publicist welcomed Alexander and later another son in 2020. Although Roberts was closer to age 60, she was still getting noticed for her beauty and was used in commercials.
Julia’s Beautiful Aging Causes Mixed Reactions
On March 23, 2023, Chopard, a company Roberts has represented before, revealed her as the face of its new campaign. Besides modeling for the company, the actress was placed as its “global ambassador.”
However, the Comic Relief supporter was still Lancôme’s face, having been with them since 2009. The Oscar Award-winners’ latest advert for the brand showed her appearing in a white shirt.
The year she started with Lancôme, it was revealed that she earned over $50 million, and indeed it’s much more in 2023. As Chopard’s global ambassador, the actress would represent women’s high jewelry, watches, and luxury jewelry collections.
In the social media video she shared, a glowing Roberts revealed that she was “on set.” The star looked younger than her age as she modeled diamond-encrusted heart-shaped earrings.
On March 16, 2023, a makeup artist, Genevieve Herr, shared a black-and-white Instagram photo of Roberts posing for a Chopard campaign photo. The image caused a stir on social media with one person writing:
“She lost her looks years ago.”
The picture shocked someone else, who said, “OMG, that’s a harsh photo, not a good look.” However, another person thought the opposite, feeling the actress had “aged beautifully,” while someone else wrote:
“Thankfully, she didn’t mess with her face and looks like her beautiful self.”
A fifth fan thought the star was an “excellent actress,” but her “life bio story is tough.” The follower felt Roberts had “broken up too many marriages” before noting how Danny had been married when they met.
[Nancy] Motes said she’d suffered from depression throughout her life, but it had never gotten as bad as when she died by suicide.
Someone else wondered if the star’s “teeth, mouth, and chin grow again??,” while another wanted to know what the actress had done to her nose. A fan replied to the previous poster noting how the change in Robert’s nose was “part of aging.”
An Instagram user believed the image wasn’t a true reflection of what the celebrity currently looked like. The fan urged the actress not to “use filters,” as it was “not what she looks like now.”
The original poster argued that age didn’t cause people’s noses to get bigger. Another critic felt the celebrity’s mouth and teeth were “too big,” while her nose was “long” and ears “big,” before calling her “immoral,” with someone else adding:
“It’s a beautiful face behind an ugly personality; just read what she has done to her sister.”
What the follower was referencing was how the celebrity lost her half-sister. In her 2014 suicide note, Roberts’s half-sister appeared to blame the actress for the depression she had and for being pushed over the edge.
A User’s Disappointment with Julia Due to the Tragic Story of Her Half-Sister
According to a report, Nancy Motes, Roberts’ half-sister, left a suicide note where she revealed that the actress was so cruel she “drove me into the deepest depression I’ve ever been in.” In her handwritten note, Motes described her sister as a “so-called sibling.”
The star’s sibling felt she deserved nothing if she passed except knowing she’d pushed her to that outcome. Motes claimed the abuse she got from Roberts was so bad that “I burst into tears because I wake up.”
The actress’ half-sister passed away after an illegal substance overdose on February 9, 2014, at 37, leading her fiancé, John Dilbeck, to fight for control over her estate. Motes’ suicide note was found at the scene of her death.
Roberts’ sibling also mentioned that if anything happened to her, Dilbeck would get whatever he wanted from her possessions, including Lucy, their dog. She blamed her mother, Betty Lou Bredemus, and “siblings” for pushing her into the worst depression she’d ever experienced.
Motes said she’d suffered from depression throughout her life, but it had never gotten as bad as when she died by suicide. The note was filed in court papers concerning her estate, with one section addressing Dilbeck, another Bredemus and Roberts, and the third “everyone.”
