Recently, the Ribeiro family found themselves at the center of media attention following a devastating accident that left their 4-year-old daughter, Ava, injured.
As shared by the host of Dancing with the Stars, the path to recovery for their young daughter is expected to be a lengthy one, spanning several months.
In the midst of this challenging time, with Alfonso marking his 52nd birthday, the family’s focus remains steadfastly on supporting Ava through her recovery journey.
As per reports, the young girl underwent emergency surgery on Friday, May 12 to prevent the possibility of scarring after she fell off of her sit-down scooter just one day before her 4th birthday.
Sharing pictures of his daughter’s injuries – including extensive bruising and bad burns on her right elbow, shoulder, and around her right eye – Alfonso praised the medical team at Kare MD Skin Health, and also revealed his pride concerning Ava’s courage.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star wrote in his Instagram post: “Not the kind of day you want the day before turning 4. Just want to give a heartfelt thank you to [Kare MD Skin Health] for the emergency service and procedure to help lessen the likelihood of [scarring]. So proud of how brave my baby girl was during the surgery.”
Ava’s mother Angela, meanwhile, went deeper as to the circumstances of her daughter’s accident, revealing that she’d had a bad feeling that morning that Ava was going to end up in harm’s way.
Angela later spoke about the incident, writing, “I woke up and had a vision/motherly intuition of Ava ending up in the ER today.” She added:
“I announced to the fam, kids, sitter & friends helping out getting ready for Ava’s birthday party that ‘we are not doing anything crazy or dangerous today that could potentially end up with an ER visit.’ I literally made everyone lock eyes to me when I said these words.”
Yet Angela’s words clearly weren’t taken seriously enough, for it wasn’t long after she’d revealed her warning that Ava fell off her scooter.
In the wake of the accident, Ava was rushed to Kare MD Skin Health – and Dr. Raffy – after-hours, in a bid to minimize the risk that she would experience scarring in the future.
“Not a fun way to spend your last day as a 3-year old, but she was a trooper,” Angela added.
“Giving this sweet girl some extra cuddles tonight.”
A couple of days later, Angela shared pictures of her daughter with wounds across her arms and face. Alfonso then made an appearance on Live With Kelly and Mark and gave a rundown of what had happened.
“So, it was a very stressful weekend,” the dad said. He added, “She fell and had basically road rash on her face and arm, and so they had to scalpel off all the skin.”
Despite having a scary accident that required emergency surgery the day before, the little girl was in good spirits for her 4th birthday party the next day. “Happy Birthday to my sweet Ava Sue. As some of you know Ava had a very difficult week,” Alfonso wrote on Instagram. “I’m so proud of how well she handled everything. She’s so brave strong and creative. I love everything about my little girl.”
The team at Kare MD Skin Health, meanwhile, took to their own Instagram page on May 12 to wish Ava a happy birthday.
“Thank you for the very kind words [Alfonso]. We are so honored to take care of your precious princess Ava. Best wishes for a speedy recovery,” they wrote in the caption.
I think we can safely agree that it’s always terrifying whenever one of our babies gets hurt. I’m thankful Alfonso and Angela’s little one is well on the mend.
Today, it seems that Ava is recovering well. Judging by the latest updates on Alfonso’s Instagram, she appears to be fully restored. So reassuring to see!
