Brian Austin Green and Shannen Doherty co-starred alongside each other on a teen drama series and have remained great friends since.
He was one of the people from the cast that she told about her cancer diagnosis, and he has supported her over the years.
Green recently spoke out about Doherty’s condition and revealed he had health issues, too.
“Beverly Hills, 90210” stars Brian Austin Green and Shannen Doherty are going through difficult times because of health issues. Green recently spoke out on the Hollywood duo’s health battles.
The renowned actors have remained close friends throughout the years, and Doherty has even credited Green for standing by her amid her battle with a terminal illness.
In 2020, she revealed to “Good Morning America” that the “Desperate Housewives” alum helped her get through filming “BH90210” following her cancer diagnosis:
“I had moments of great anxiety where I thought, ‘I can’t really do this,’ and Brian was the one person of that group of people that knew, that I told pretty quickly.”
Doherty disclosed in June 2023 that her cancer had spread to her brain, sharing an Instagram video of her undergoing radiation therapy. She admitted she was scared while revealing she was “extremely claustrophobic.” Still, the television star maintained a positive outlook and thanked her doctors for their incredible work.
The Tennessee native was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Two years later, in 2017, she revealed it was in remission. However, the actress disclosed in 2020 that her cancer had returned as stage four.
In February of that same year, her co-star Green spoke frankly about how she was holding up at the Annual Open Hearts Gala in Beverly Hills, saying:
“I don’t want to speak about her too much, but it’s a hard situation.”
The Los Angeles native acknowledged that dealing with the disease was difficult. Meanwhile, Green stated difficult times only made people stronger, but only if they allowed it – which is what Doherty was doing at the time.
He described her as a good person, adding that she deserved all the good wishes and friendships she had. In July 2023, the TV star turned 50, and his longtime pal Doherty, 52, paid tribute to him with a sweet post on Instagram.
The showbiz star posted pictures of the pair having a good time with their other friend and co-star, Ian Ziering, who played Steve Sanders in “BH90210.”
Doherty and Green starred as Brenda Walsh and David Silver in the teen drama series from 1990 until 1994 alongside Tori Spelling. She left the show due to an alleged conflict on set, and he remained on the show.
Green on Doherty’s Strength amid Cancer Battle & His Own Health Issues
In a recent interview, Green spoke out on Doherty’s condition and described her as being an “incredibly tough person” amid her battle with cancer, adding:
“If there’s anyone who could put up a real fight to cancer – she’s one of them. It’s not an easy situation, obviously.”
The “Knots Landing” star revealed he stays in constant contact with Doherty, who is making the best of her unfavorable situation. In addition, Green also opened up about his own health issues.
It all began with ulcerative colitis followed by vertigo, and then it turned neurological as he found himself uttering fewer words. The star lost his ability to talk and walk and could not read or write. He divulged that he could not work for four years. However, there was no official diagnosis, and he only hoped to get back to his usual self.
