Paulina Porizkova was born in 1965 and began her modeling career just 15 short years after. She graced the covers of several big magazines and steadily made a name for herself in the modeling world. Apart from magazines, she also appeared in several films, TV shows, as well as music videos. Recently, she has become known for being candid about the process of aging, grief, loss, and more.
Now at 57 years old with over 40 years of experience in the world of modeling, she has still fully immersed it in despite what critics say. She still poses in bikinis and posts pictures of herself doing so.
She said about it, “I am a 57-year-old woman, and it seems to mean, in society, when you go into your middle age, you sort of lose your license to be able to show up in bikinis too.” Porizkova often talks about the criticism she receives simply for posting herself as a model even at this age. She was once called “a desperate grandma” or “too old to be doing this,” but she never takes it too seriously and stands up for herself.
She was previously married to Ric Ocasek, the late frontman of the iconic rock band The Cars, for 28 years. The couple had had their ups and downs which the former supermodel shared candidly. She said the months leading up to his death, the two of them had essentially become estranged. She said in an interview after his passing, “I just noticed that we shared less and less, and we communicated less, and then he sort of stopped desiring me.”
She talked about her doubts at the time saying, “Since I was hitting my late 40s and early 50s, I think I figured, maybe he doesn’t fancy me because I’m getting older.”
However, she still makes it a point to honor Ocasek’s memory of the good times they spent together.
Now she is a staunch advocate for women aging and not going under the knife for surgery to reverse aging. She hopes more and more women will accept their aging bodies and choose to celebrate their natural beauty. She said, “My desire is to be an unaltered older woman.”
She always speaks positively about her aging face saying, “What I like about my face now at 57, it’s that it’s like a really good novel of the history of my life, like it’s all written into my face.”
She always reminds other older women or even younger ones the importance of letting yourself age and how it is a beautiful natural process. She said, “We have to make older cool, I’m really trying, but we need more women to sort of embrace age and keep trumpeting it out there, going ’look at what I’m doing at my age.’”
She truly is beautiful, even at this age! Share this inspirational piece with others to see what they think about her ideas about aging!
